Sports and academics are two of life’s greatest pleasures, and when the two can be combined, even better! Eddie Butler, a languages teacher in Cambridge, England, is an impressive example. He has found success in both. With a passion for both rugby and languages, and a wealth of knowledge to pull from, Butler was kind enough to give an interview on the topics.

The ABCs and XYZs of Learning New Languages

When asked about his approach to teaching new languages, Butler had this to say “I think language learning, when done correctly, can be a rather simple process. You learn the basics, like the alphabet and so on, and then move onto forming words and sentences. It really is just like building with Lego. Once you have the pieces, you can bring it all together.” This is a fresh take that makes learning languages more approachable, which is why Butler has been so successful.

Combining Sport and Language

In addition to teaching languages, Butler’s other passion is rugby. He has played the sport since his college days, and has taken it upon himself to teach the sport to others. “Rugby is a great way to develop important lessons, such as discipline, physical strength, and most importantly, the importance of teamwork.” While each game is naturally physical, the atmosphere remains kind and friendly. With each successful teach, Butler furthers his mission to bring passion and knowledge to those who seek it.

Eddie Butler is an inspiring example of how one can find success in academics and athletics. His knowledge on language is essential, but it is his positive energy and passion for rugby and teaching that make him stand out. He has changed and inspired the lives of so many by combining the two, and many more will certainly join him on his journey.
