These pictures demonstrate to us two wildly different creatures in vastly different environments. The first image is of a giant, flightless, carnivorous bird that has been extinct for millions of years, nicknamed a Terror Bird. The second image is of a group of individuals and a building at a presumably outdoor event.
Terror Bird by Jon4
This frightening creature was once a common sight for ancient civilizations. Belonging to the genus Phorusrhacidae, one of the earliest members of the bird family, the fossilized bird remains suggest it was a terrifying presence. It is believed to have stood up to 10 feet tall, had wings that did not allow flight, and strong legs and claws for snatching its lunch.
The terror bird was a dominant predator from the Miocene epoch to the Holocene epoch which was over 10 million years ago. With its height and weight estimated to be similar to that of an ostrich, it was an impressive hunter.
This portrait of the bird was created by artist Jon4 and provides a glimpse of what the ancient creature once looked like. Through the use of fossilized remains, paleontologists have been able to bring this creature to life.
The 4th Annual Sweat
This image is of the 4th Annual Sweat event held by the organization Khafre, Inc. People gather for each of the events held annually and enjoy a variety of activities and attractions. The event typically includes a fitness challenge, music, food and beverage vendors, activities for children, and interactive vendors.
In this image, we can make out the large building in the background, likely the venue for the event. This is where the festivities take place, attracting lifelong members of the community or visitors from out of town.
The crowd looks happy and engaged, decked out in their fitness attire. It is events like this that build new memories and relationships while bringing people together to celebrate. It is a true testament to the way in which events can make a positive impact in our lives.
